DLR Events – Outdoor Movies in the Park

Woo-hoo, it’s summer time, Outdoor Movies in the Park is back! This ever popular event relocates itself to Marlay Park on the weekend of Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th August. The series which presents free screenings of some of cinema’s classics, recent hits and indie gems will transform the glorious Marlay Park into an outdoor cinema for the weekend. The backdrop for the giant movie screen will be the magnificent Marlay House and with any luck the sun will put in a guest appearance to make the open air setting even more impressive. Filmgoers are welcome to bring picnics and blankets for a great family day out. Popcorn and other treats will be available for purchase throughout the event, and the dlr COCO Market will be open from 11-4pm throughout the weekend.

There will be 3 screenings a day, at 3pm, 5.30pm and 8.30pm and. With all films 15s and under, there guarantees to be something for everyone. Our movie schedule will be posted to nearer to the date.

DLR Events is an initiative by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council. Among the many events enjoyed by adults and children alike have been Kickstart, the Mad Hatters Tea Party & Active 8. The Teddy Bears Picnic takes place on Saturday 25th August in Blackrock Park followed by the Cabinteely Carnival in Cabinteely Park on Sunday 23rd September.

Gnomeo & Juliet

Garden gnomes Gnomeo (voice of McAvoy) and Juliet (voice of Blunt) have as many obstacles to overcome as their quasi namesakes when they are caught up in a feud between neighbors. But with plastic pink flamingos and lawnmower races in the mix, can this young couple find lasting happiness?

Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief

When his lightning bolt is stolen, Zeus accuses Poseidon’s son Percy Jackson and gives Poseidon’s son fourteen days to return it, otherwise he will initiate a war amongst the gods. Meanwhile the teenager, Percy, who is dyslexic and has ADHD is visiting The Museum of Metropolitan of Art and is attacked by a Fury disguised in his teacher. His crippled best friend Grover reveals that Percy is a demigod and that he is his protector and his teacher Mr Brunner gives him a pen telling him that it is a powerful weapon. They go to Percy’s house and together with his mother Sally they drive to the Camp Half-Blood. However Sally is attacked by a Minotaur and vanishes before Percy can help her. In the camp, Percy befriends the gorgeous Annabeth; when they are attacked by Hades who wants the lighting bolt for himself, Percy discovers that his mother is in the Underworld with Hades. Percy decides to travel on a dangerous quest to retrieve the lightning bolt and save his mother…

Sherlock Holmes 2 : A Game of Shadows

With Dr. John Watson about to marry and end their partnership, a disconsolate Sherlock Holmes occupies his time investigating the schemes of his archenemy, Professor James Moriarty. However, when Moriarty warns that he considers the Watsons a legitimate target for his retaliation against the detective, Holmes must save them and get John involved in one last case. To do so, they join the Roma lady Madam Simza Heron’s quest to find her missing brother, Renee, who may be the key to defeating Moriarty. Together, the trio find themselves involved in a dangerous international conspiracy led by the Napoleon of Crime in which the fate of all of Europe hangs in the balance.


After receiving the healing powers from a magical flower, the baby Princess Rapunzel is kidnapped from the palace in the middle of the night by Mother Gothel. Mother Gothel knows that the flower’s magical powers are now growing within the golden hair of Rapunzel, and to stay young, she must lock Rapunzel in her hidden tower. Rapunzel is now a teenager and her hair has grown to a length of 70-feet. The beautiful Rapunzel has been in the tower her entire life, and she is curious of the outside world. One day, the bandit Flynn Ryder scales the tower and is taken captive by Rapunzel. Rapunzel strikes a deal with the charming thief to act as her guide to travel to the place where the floating lights come from that she has seen every year on her birthday. Rapunzel is about to have the most exciting and magnificent journey of her life.

War Horse

Dartmoor,1914: To his wife’s dismay farmer Narracott buys a thoroughbred horse rather than a plough animal, but when his teenaged son Albert trains the horse and calls him Joey, the two becoming inseparable. When his harvest fails, the farmer has to sell Joey to the British cavalry and he is shipped to France where, after a disastrous offensive he is captured by the Germans and changes hands twice more before he is found, caught in the barbed wire in No Man’s Land four years later and freed. He is returned behind British lines where Albert, now a private, has been temporarily blinded by gas, but still recognizes his beloved Joey. However, as the Armistice is declared Joey is set to be auctioned off. After all they have been through will Albert and Joey return home together

Close Encounters of the Third Kind 

Planes reported missing in 1945 suddenly appear in the Mojave desert. A commercial flight is buzzed by a ‘bright’ object that the pilot ‘wouldn’t know how to describe’. Roy Neary, while working one night, has a Close Encounter… The US Government determine where the visitors plan to land and create an elaborate cover-up to keep people away. However, a group of people, including Neary, share a vision which draws them to the place and a meeting with new, and old, friends
