It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas around Dublin Bay and Dún Laoghaire festivals will soon be getting underway to help everyone celebrate the festive season in style.
Between the 1st and 22nd of December this popular seaside Dublin town promises to bring the spirit of Christmas to life for all ages with live entertainment, market stalls, fireworks, ice slides and, of course, a magical Santa’s grotto.
This year’s festival will see Dún Laoghaire transformed into a spectacular Christmas Ice Kingdom. The polar ice theme will involve ice sculptures, ice slides and ski performers all adding to the spectacle.
A specially imported 60-metre ice slide will form the main hub of the Christmas wonderland and will be beautifully lit up and surrounded by crêpe and hot chocolate stalls. Come and watch talented ski dare-devils perform tricks and stunts and watch awe-inspiring sculptors carve magical works of art out of blocks of ice.
Around the harbour will be more than 40 arts, food and craft market stalls. Local retailers will also be getting into the Christmas spirit by offering special discounts in stores around town. And outside St Michael’s church visitors can view the beautiful nativity scene with a life-size crib and real live donkeys and goats.
But the highlight of the Dún Laoghaire Christmas festival will be Santa’s grotto where the big man himself will be making a very special appearance.
After the success of last year’s first ever Christmas festival this year’s event aims to be even bigger and better and promises to be a Christmas festival for young and old to enjoy. Make sure to come and explore Dún Laoghaire’s Christmas Ice Kingdom for yourself and really get in the spirit of Christmas this year.
