Following on from the very successful Club Development Seminar held in 2011 the Dublin & Kildare Local Sports Partnerships are calling all sports clubs in the region to sign up for the 2012 Social Media Seminar for Sports Clubs at the Red Cow Inn on Saturday 17th November 2012.

Many people are aware of Facebook and Twitter but are unsure how to best utilise these free PR tools. The 2012 seminar will look at these social media platforms and will show the ease at which people can use them, will highlight the dos and don’ts and outline examples of where ordinary sports clubs have embraced it for positive benefit and how your club can benefit from social media also.

This year the London Olympics and Paralympics showcased the importance of social media in a modern sporting arena, allowing members of the public to send messages of support directly, to follow progress, updates and results and to enable the athletes to connect directly with viewers and supporters. At a time when we’re all looking to increase engagement with what we do, it’s essential that we understand the role social media can play in this.

This year’s event will run from 9.30am to 1.30pm followed by lunch and a chance to network with other local clubs. The main speaker on the day itself will be Liam Horan (Ex-journalist at the Irish Independent and RTE) who will be getting clubs more familiar with the various social media platforms and encouraging them to look at using social media as a promotion and recruitment tool.  Delegates should typically be sports club members including administrators, committee members, coaches and volunteers who are involved in the running or governance of sports clubs.

Clubs rely on social media these days for build up to games, in terms of communicating their team announcements, fixtures, results and club events. The seminar aims to inform and guide clubs about this valuable communication tool and we hope to see as many clubs as possible on the day.

For more information on the event or to register your club log onto Clubs can register on-line for a fee of €20 per person (+ online registration fee of €1.70) and includes lunch, free parking, an information pack and supporting material. You can also pay in on the day for a fee of €25.
